While the family of a suburban Chicago teen found dead Friday is still anxiously awaiting answers in the 18-year-old's mysterious killing, a 20-year-old man has been charged in connection with the investigation into the incident.
Police say their arrest of Eric Johnson, of Midlothian, Ill., for unlawful delivery of a controlled substance was related to their investigation into the death of Brittany Wawrzyniak but it is not yet known how, according to ABC Chicago.
Police responded about 8 p.m. Friday to a report of an accident with injuries in the 7400 block of West 115th Street in suburban Worth and found Wawrzyniak's body there, Patch reports.
Jeanie Hughes, a close friend of Wawrzyniak's family, told the Southtown Star they "believe that Brittany was a victim of violent crime," though they still have little to go on beyond rumors at this point.
“She’s not coming home,” Wawrzyniak’s mother Rebecca Tully told NBC Chicago of her daughter, a student at the Illinois Institute of Art. "She’s never going to have another Christmas."
A GiveForward fundraising page has been set up to help Wawrzyniak's family cover the costs of her memorial and funeral and a candlelight vigil will be held at 115th Street and Beloit Avenue in Worth at 7 p.m. Monday.
Anyone with information about the incident are being urged to call police at 708-448-3979.
