Man Shot To Death In Parking Lot Of Lincoln Square McDonald's

The North Side Chicago neighborhood of Lincoln Square saw its first gunshot homicide in more than six years Monday after a man was found shot in the head in a McDonald's parking lot.

Police say the 25-year-old man was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in a dark blue BMW just after 7 p.m. in the 4900 block of North Lincoln Avenue, DNAinfo Chicago reports. The man was reportedly sitting in the car when one shooter or possibly multiple gunmen opened fire.

Sources say the shooter fled in a tan Nissan after the incident.

One Lincoln Square resident said he walked by the parking lot just before 7 p.m. and saw a man who looked to be in his 20s and a woman arguing. The man described the pair as “freaking out,” according to the Sun-Times, and said the two were in the restaurant by the time he walked along.

Police sources say the man may have been shot in a drug deal gone wrong and that the victim had possible gang ties and a felony record. According to WGN, the victim was seen arguing with another man inside the restaurant.

The man's body reportedly sat in the car for two hours as authorities investigated, all while his family stood near by awaiting confirmation of the man's identify, DNAinfo reports.

Three more people were shot overnight Monday, the Tribune reports, though the Lincoln Square shooting was the lone homicide.

According to RedEye crime reporter Tracy Swartz, Monday's homicide is only the second of the year in the well-to-do Northwest Side neighborhood and the first gunshot homicide in more than six years.
