Charlie Trotter Memorial: Chicago Remembering Famed Chef Who Put City On The Culinary Map

CHICAGO -- CHICAGO (AP) — A who's who of the culinary world is among hundreds of people gathered at a Chicago church for a memorial to celebrity chef Charlie Trotter.

Among those who've arrived at Fourth Presbyterian Church Monday are chefs Graham Elliott and Norman Van Aken. Some people are wearing white chef's coats. Trotter died last week at a Chicago hospital after paramedics found him unresponsive at his home. He was 54 years old.

Debbie Dipert didn't know Trotter but says she felt it was important to attend his memorial. She and her husband ate at the famed Charlie Trotter's restaurant a month before it closed last year, and she says Trotter spent time talking to them.

The restaurant Trotter ran for 25 years put the city at the vanguard of the food world.
