Authorities are working to determine if a woman's body found Tuesday by police is that of a Gurnee, Ill. woman who went missing on Monday.
Anne Stroll, 64, was last seen alive by neighbors leaving on her bike around 1 p.m. Monday.
Upon returning home from an afternoon doctor's appointment, ABC Chicago reports Stroll's husband, Michael, found a note from his wife saying she had gone on a short bike ride; Michael Stroll later called authorities when his wife didn't return by sundown.
Police found the as-yet unidentified woman's body around 2 p.m. near North Milwaukee Avenue and the Des Plaines River Trail in unincorporated Libertyville, roughly 40 miles north of Chicago. The area, according to the Tribune, is near the Strolls' home.
Officials were searching that area after Stroll's cell phone company pinged her mobile device and showed it as being located near the Des Plaines River Trail and Route 137, an area along which Stroll was known to ride her bike. Police, along with several deployed rescue units, discovered a body but have reportedly not found Stroll's phone.
"We don't know if foul play has been done," Michael Stroll told ABC's Eric Horng before the woman's body was discovered Tuesday. "We don't know if she has hit her head, and she's lying in a ditch someplace with her bike. We don't know anything, Eric. Nothing."
Gurnee police are not speculating on the cause of death for the body that was found, nor whether the body is that of the missing woman. The Lake County Sheriff Office’s Police Sgt. Sara Balmes told CBS Chicago those determinations are up to the Lake County coroner who will perform an autopsy on the body.
Meanwhile, anyone with information is asked to contact the Gurnee police at (847) 599-7000. Stroll is described as 5-foot-8, weighing 120 pounds, with blue eyes and shoulder-length blond hair. She was last seen wearing a red bandana and riding a blue Trek Navigator.
