Police announced Tuesday that they plan to file charges against the 42-year-old suburban Chicago woman who was keeping 30 dogs, many of them puppies and most of them ill, inside her one-bedroom apartment.
Last Friday, the woman relinquished the dogs after North Chicago police discovered her apartment was covered in "animal waste and insect infestation," according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The dogs were in poor shape. NBC Chicago reports two of the dogs required emergency medical care, while most of the others were suffering from dehydration and malnutrition. Two of the dogs were visibly pregnant.
Per ABC Chicago's report, many of the dogs have what's called "demonic mange," a skin disease that specifically affects young animals.
ABC's Gianna Urgo posted several images of the pups on her Twitter page on Tuesday:
According to a community Facebook group, the city's Animal Control facility has been filled to capacity and is planning to place the dogs with area rescue groups so that they can be adopted out, but meanwhile they are in need of supplies including good quality dog food, paper towels, blankets, garbage bags and more.
