Woman Dies After Falling Into Chicago River Near Michigan Avenue

A 30-year-old woman died Tuesday morning after she was pulled from the frigid waters of the Chicago River near Michigan Avenue.

According to DNAinfo Chicago, the woman fell into the water in the 300 block of North Michigan Avenue about 3:40 a.m.

Witness Hailey Barham told CBS Chicago she was driving when she saw a woman begging a cab driver to call police. The woman's friends reportedly told her the group had been staying at the Omni Chicago Hotel and had been walking along the Riverwalk at the time of the incident.

The woman was reportedly visiting Chicago from Houston and officials say their initial investigation indicates she likely slipped and fell into the river, NBC Chicago reports.

The woman was pulled out of the river around 4:15 a.m. and she was then taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 5:20 a.m., according to the Chicago Tribune.
